‘Newtown Fractions’

A collision of East meets West and North meets South.

Newtown Fractions captures the iconic buildings of Newtown through splinted light patterns as diverse as the people that inhabit the suburb. Inspired by the fragmented forms and transparency found within stained glass windows; ‘Newtown Fractions’ reflects the suburbs bustling life both during the day and night. The colonial buildings have a translucent aura with bursts of bright colours seeping throughout, catching the hum of life hidden beneath their exterior walls.

Loose lively brushstrokes symbolise the spirit and movement felt when walking through Riddiford street, underneath the multitude of power lines. This work celebrates Newtown; my love of the suburb I grew up in, a hub of multiculturalism and artistic expression.
